Adding Like Coins Scoot Game
Are your students learning to identify coins? Are they learning how to add like coins up to one dollar? If so, one of my favorite review activities to use with my class is this Adding Like Coins Task Cards/Scoot Game! It gets students engaged and up and moving! This adding money activity can be used in many ways: a whole class math scoot game, an independent math write-the-room activity, or a fun small math group activity! It is perfect for any math lesson or math station!
Adding Like Coins Scoot Game
Whether playing the adding like coins scoot game as a scoot game, completing independent task cards, or participating in a math write-the-room activity, students will gain ample practice identifying coins, counting coins, and adding like coins! Students will practice adding groups of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to equal a total value of one dollar or less. Both color and black-and-white versions of the task cards are included. Use the black and white version to save ink or for a challenge – students can practice identifying, counting, and adding coins without seeing the color of the coins!
Students will “scoot” or walk around the room to add the like coins on each card. Once students find the total of the like coins, they will record it on the recording sheet. Students could complete this activity independently or with a partner.
Once students have totaled the like coins on each card, they can turn in their recording sheet for you to grade, or you can check the recording sheets together as a class for a review. When checking the recording sheets together as a class, I like to have students check their sheets with a marker. I display the task cards in order starting at number one. We go over the cards and students either place a checkmark next to their answer if correct or write the correct answer if incorrect.
