This hands-on activity helps students understand place value, count tens and ones, and compose numbers using tens and ones. This Identify Numbers Using Tens and Ones Place Value activity can be used in many ways: a whole class math scoot game, an independent write the room math center or solve the room activity, or a fun small math group activity! It is perfect for any math lesson or math station and for reinforcing early place value skills in an engaging, active way!

Whether playing a scoot game, completing independent task cards, or participating in a math write the room activity, students will practice identifying groups of ten and ones and understanding how those relate to numbers. Students will look at pictures of tens and ones base ten blocks and determine:

How many ones are shown
What number is made using that amount of tens and ones
