These United States 50 States Reading Comprehension Passages and Region and Geography Maps will help you engage and teach your students interesting and important facts about each of the 50 states and their capitals, as well as assess students’ knowledge of each state’s location on a map. Each of the 50 States Reading Comprehension Passages will also allow your students to practice reading comprehension skills.
This 181-page learning resource includes text-based evidence passages, one for each of the 50 states. Each state reading passage contains a mixture of information on state history, fun facts, and state attractions. Included with each passage is a comprehension check consisting of multiple-choice and/or written response questions. Questions include basic recall and higher-order thinking skills. These 50 States Reading Comprehension Passages can be used in a variety of settings – whole group, small group, or independent work. The passages can also be used without the comprehension checks if desired. This 50 States Reading Comprehension Passages resource is intended for Second Grade-Fifth Grade. Students will have a blast learning fascinating facts about each state while also learning United States geography skills!
This resource is broken into regions of the United States. Each US region contains a poster, a nonfiction reading passage and comprehension check for each of the 50 states, a state shape identification worksheet, a map label-it worksheet, a find and color map activity, and a true/false trivia challenge. At the conclusion of this resource, a United States map, a United States regions map, a US map label activity, a state shape activity, a find and color map activity, a true/false challenge, and links to state tourism videos are included.
