Students will be having so much fun practicing reading fluency and reading with expression that they will think it is a game instead of reading practice!
This packet contains both print and digital activities! Included are 29 oral reading fluency strips that each contain several sentences. The reading fluency strips contain a variety of sentences for students to practice reading fluency and expression including exclamatory, declarative, and imperative.
For this activity, I place the strips in a bag and have students draw one. Students then practice reading the fluency strip several times both independently and with a partner before reading it in front of the class to practice fluency and expression. For a fun twist, you could also have students pretend they are acting out the fluency cards. At the end, pick a few students who read fluently and with expression to receive an “award.” This award could be given to students every time (laminate and let them keep it for a designated time) or over a period of time.
These reading fluency strips could be used in a multitude of ways including small groups and centers. Additionally, they can be used over and over again, which will give students a lot of practice with reading fluency and expression!
This reading fluency practice activity comes in both print and digital formats. The digital format is provided in three formats: Seesaw™, Google Slides™, and PowerPoint™. Step-by-step video instructions on how to use are included.
This product would best be used with Second Grade, Third Grade, and end-of-year or advanced First Grade readers.
