We’ve almost made it to the end of the school year. Students know the routines and expectations and have shown oh so much growth! It’s a great place to be in and a wonderful season to incorporate into the curriculum! Let’s take a look at some of my favorite spring activities for the classroom!

Beatrix Potter is known for her classic works of literature. I love to introduce my students to her works in the spring. In the time of year known for animals, what better time to explore the works of Beatrix Potter? I love to read The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies, and The Tale of Jeremey Fisher to my students. While reading these wonderful books, we practice vocabulary, comprehension skills, character analysis, making visualizations, sequencing, and so much more! Students connect to the characters through the different books and build their writing skills by responding to texts. Finally, it’s fun to tie in some seasonal crafts into the author study!

Spring Activities for the Classroom

While welcoming the spring season to the classroom, it’s fun to research rabbits, write Spring acrostic poems, practice comprehension skills with spring fill-in-the-blank sentences, practice math skills with spring-themed missing addends worksheets, practice fractions with eggs, and finally, practice alphabetical order skills using spring vocabulary words!

If you would like to do any of these spring activities in your classroom, I’ve compiled them in a jam-packed spring resource packet! This 83-page learning resource contains spring literacy and math resources, rabbit literacy resources, and a Beatrix Potter author study. The Beatrix Potter author study uses the works of Beatrix Potter (The Tale of Peter RabbitThe Tale of Benjamin BunnyThe Tale of Jeremy Fisher, and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies) to teach students the literacy skills of vocabulary, sequencing, reading comprehension, making visualizations, writing, making connections, character analysis, and retell.

Students can use the included spring activities to organize characteristics of spring, practice alphabetical order and sentence comprehension skills with spring vocabulary, write a spring acrostic poem, and practice math skills such as missing addends and fractions with engaging spring worksheets.

To incorporate science and writing into the unit, rabbit reading comprehension passages and rabbit research reports are included.

Finally, the resource explores the works of Beatrix Potter. Each work (The Tale of Peter RabbitThe Tale of Benjamin BunnyThe Tale of Jeremy Fisher, and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies) contains a teaching guide with vocabulary and comprehension questions, written-response comprehension questions, graphic organizers, and literacy activities. Students will be engaged and challenged while exploring the works of Beatrix Potter! This resource is geared toward students in Second and Third Grades.
